2018 Men's Soccer All-Conference Awards Announced
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The 2018 Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Soccer All-Conference Team and Awards are out, and Harry Baggaley of Tennessee Wesleyan is the Player of the Year, the league announced Monday.
The All-AAC Team and Awards were voted on and selected by the coaches.
Baggaley hauled in a number of awards. In addition to being the Player of the Year, he is the Freshman of the Year and the Golden Boot winner as he led the league with 13 goals in conference play.
Other individual award winners include Joao Costa of Truett McConnell as the Offensive Player of the Year, Torge Wiedenroth of Reinhardt as the Defensive Player of the Year, and Joey Johnson of Reinhardt as the Coach of the Year. Point is the regular-season champion with a 9-1 conference record.
Baggaley, Costa, and Wiedenroth each made the All-AAC First Team and joining them are Todd Fidler of Reinhardt, Giovanni Giraudo of Truett McConnell, Juan Gomez of Point, Jack Hardacre of Reinhardt, Alex Horton of Bryan, Dino Jones of Bryan, Victor Profit of Reinhardt, Jonathan Ricketts of Bryan, Gary Shorrow of Point, Guillermo Sofio of Point, and Brad Spooner of Bryan.
Making the All-AAC Second Team are Charlie Clarke of Bryan, Nick Croucher of Tennessee Wesleyan, Marcos da Paz of Columbia International, Leonardo Fagioli of Reinhardt, Roberto Fernandez Garrido of Milligan, Taylor Gray of Reinhardt, Eden Gumbs of Union, Sven Kleinhan of Bluefield, Brayan Palencia of Point, Bas Pouls of Montreat, Joe Stacey of Bluefield, Ben Timms of Tennessee Wesleyan, Aaron Whitten of Reinhardt, and Kyle Wynne of Tennessee Wesleyan.
Earning a spot on the Champions of Character Team are Nathan Ashburn of Reinhardt, Doran Battermann of Columbia International, Craig Ellis of Union, Gabriel Gonzalez of Tennessee Wesleyan, Axel Johansson of Bluefield, Marcelo Monteiro of Bryan, Oliver Nuno-Rodriguez of Montreat, Bliss Obodumu of St. Andrews, Gary Shorrow of Point, and David Windmiller of Truett McConnell.
A total of 75 student-athletes made the grade to claim a spot on the All-Academic Team.
