Union, CIU Advance to Men's Soccer Championship Match

WALEKSA, Ga. - Union and Columbia International will meet in the championship match in the 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Soccer Tournament after both survived penalty kicks.

No. 4 seed Union and No. 1 see Milligan played to a scoreless draw before Union won the shootout 5-4 in seven rounds.

Meanwhile, No. 3 seed Tennessee Wesleyan looked to be on its way to the final when Jonah Lewis put the Bulldogs up 2-1 in the 83rd minute. However, Sohya Yamamoto pulled second-seeded Columbia International even in the 89th minute to force overtime. After 20 scoreless minutes, the match to a penalty shootout. Both teams were perfect through the first four rounds, but Tennessee Wesleyan missed its fifth attempt while Praise Kabwe converted to send the Rams the finals.

The championship match is set for Friday in Columbia, S.C., as Columbia International will host Union.
