AAC Announces Softball All-Conference Awards
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Appalachian Athletic Conference announced the 2014 Softball All-Conference Team on Monday, and Randi Wimpy of Reinhardt is the AAC Player of the Year while Micalah Sacre of Virginia Intermont is the AAC Pitcher of the Year.
Elizabeth Burris of St. Andrews is the Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Knights to a 16-23 overall record and 9-9 conference mark. Last season, the Lady Knights went 4-14 in league play.
Other individual award winners include Carolyn Testerman of Milligan as the Gold Glove Outfielder and Courtney Gobble of Tennessee Wesleyan as the Gold Glove Infielder. Columbia received the Champions of Character Team award.
Wimpy leads the AAC in batting with a .450 average and in RBIs with 58. The sophomore catcher ranks nationally in 15 statistical categories including No. 1 in total home runs (19) and total bases (144), No. 2 in slugging percentage (1.029) and No. 4 in total runs scored (62). Wimpy has had as many as six RBIs in a game this year and twice belted two home runs in a game.
Sacre picks up her second AAC Pitcher of the Year honor, earning it last year as a sophomore. She owns an ERA of 2.12 and leads the league in strikeouts with 217 total for an average of 10.7 per game. Sacre is 15-8 on the year with 21 complete games and five shutouts. She ranks third in the NAIA in total strikeouts and 28th in total wins.
Joining Wimpy and Sacre on the All-AAC Team are: Chancil Connaster of Milligan, Madison Luck of Reinhardt, Kaitie Sims of Bryan, Jessica Wheelock of Milligan, Becca Zimmerman of Bryan, Taylor McGinnis of Milligan, Kelsey Pruitt of Columbia, Kendall Hatin of Reinhardt, C.J. Browder of Reinhardt, Lindsey Arndts of Tennessee Wesleyan, Shelby Sinclair of Reinhardt, Heather Daniel of Bryan, Ashley Wojnowski of Union, Katie Rietkovich of Reinhardt and Amber Anderson of Point.
