KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Brenau scored the day's only upset as the eighth-seeded Tigers knocked off No. 1 seed Milligan 9-3 on day two of the 2021 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Softball Tournament.
The tournament is being held at the Brickyard Ball Fields in Kingsport, Tenn.
GAME 3 - POINT 2, TENNESSEE WESLEYAN 0
Tennessee Wesleyan outhit Point 7-5, but it was the Skyhawks who found their way home.
Point scored in the second thanks to an error. Angela Heimback lined an RBI double in the third to make it 2-0.
Allie Beilstein took care of the rest. The Point hurler kept Tennessee Wesleyan off the scoreboard, giving up seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
GAME 4 - BRENAU 9, MILLIGAN 3
Miscues led to runs as Brenau upset Milligan 9-3.
Four Milligan errors resulted in seven unearned runs for Brenau. The Tigers opened the scoring with four in the third and never looked back.
Kasey Blair led Brenau in going 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Claire Fendig and Abigail Brown each had two RBI.
GAME 5 - TRUETT MCCONNELL 4, UNION 1
The game went scoreless for four-and-a-half innings, making for a wild finish.
Truett McConnell loaded the bases with one out. Union looked like it might get it out of the jam as it got a strikeout for the second out. But a walk to Briley Lawson pushed the first run across. Mattie Brooks singled up the middle to drive in two, and Lauren Barrett added an RBI single for a 4-0 Bears' lead after five innings.
Union threatened in the seventh. With the bases loaded and no outs, Brooke Brown scored on a groundout. It appeared a sac fly cut the margin to two, but the runner was called out at third for leaving early, thus, ending the game with Truett McConnell winning 4-1.
GAME 6 - REINHARDT 3, BRYAN
Reinhardt rallied late to pull out the one-run victory. Bryan scored twice in the second for a 2-0 advantage, and Reinhardt cut the deficit in half with a run in the fourth.
In the sixth, Reinhardt had runners on the corners with one out when Kyrstyn Fisher singled in a run. Emily Loveless followed an infield single that hit off the pitcher, knocking in the go-ahead run.
Bryan threatened in the seventh, but the Lions stranded two as the Eagles held on for the 3-2 victory.
