2012-13 All-AAC Women's Basketball Team Announced
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The 2012-13 All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Team was announced Tuesday at the tournament banquet at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn., on Tuesday.
Lindsey Waters of Union and Johneshia Good of Milligan headline the All-AAC Team as the duo were named Co-Players of the Year. Good was also named the Defensive Player of the Year, while Haley Perkins of Union earned Freshman of the Year honors. Rich Aubrey of Milligan was tabbed as the Coach of the Year.
Milligan received its trophy for winning the AAC regular-season championship, and Tennessee Wesleyan was honored as the Team Champions of Character winner.
This is the second year in a row Waters earned Player of the Year honors. She led the conference in scoring (16.73 points per game), rebounding (9.65 rebounds per game) and blocks (88 total). Good ranks sixth in the league in scoring (13.23 points per game) and is the top 3-point shooting in the AAC at 40.3 percent, making 71-of-176 shots from behind the arc. Good's 64 steals ties her from third in the conference.
Perkins averages 11.0 points and 5.64 rebounds per games to go along with 64 steals, 49 assists and 21 blocks.
Joining Waters and Good on the All-AAC First Team are Morgan Burnette of Bryan, Rainey Story of Virginia Intermont and Kayla Kelly of Milligan.
Making up the All-AAC Second Team are Tara Hay of Reinhardt, Michelle Davis of Tennessee Wesleyan, Cody Houck of Tennessee Wesleyan, Alexandra Gellman of Montreat and Jaimee Hill of Milligan. On the All-AAC Third Team are Perkins, Heather Gibson of Tennessee Wesleyan, Kayla Orrick of Virginia Intermont, Krystal Morrissette of Columbia and Nikki Craig of Columbia.
The All-Defensive Team is respresented by Good, Waters, Burnette, Gibson and Shelby May of Virginia Intermont.
The All-Freshman Team consists of Perkins, Keila Formont of Bryan, Lydia Nash of Union, Allison Jones of Milligan, Sarah McKinnon of Tennessee Wesleyan and Jasmyne Miller of Point.
There are 34 student-athletes to make the Academic All-Conference Team with Tennessee Wesleyan leading the way with seven members.
