2018-19 All-AAC Women's Basketball Awards Announced
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Appalachia Athletic Conference (AAC) announced the 2018-19 All-AAC Women's Basketball Team and Awards on Wednesday, and Morgan Perkins of St. Andrews is the Player of the Year.
The All-AAC Team and Awards were announced at the 2018 AAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments on Wednesday, and the honors were voted upon by the coaches.
Other individual honorees include To'Nesha Allison of Bryan as the Defensive Player of the Year, Nicole Izuagie of Point as the Freshman of the Year, and Jason Smith of Bryan as the Coach of the Year. Bryan was also recognized as the regular-season champion.
Perkins leads the AAC in both scoring (21.85 PPG) and rebounding (10.74 RPG). A three-time AAC Player of the Week, she amassed 17 double-doubles this season to go along with 44 steals, 31 assists, and 27 blocks.
Allison registered 36 steals and 18 blocks this season. She averages 8.9 PPG and 6.9 RPG for Bryan.
Izuagie averages 15.3 PPG and 3.8 RPG for Point. In addition, she racked up 40 steals and 26 assists.
Joining Perkins on the All-AAC First Team are Karli Combs of Bryan, Danae Cox of Bluefield, Jada Hubbard of Reinhardt, Deandra Luna of Bryan, Mackenzie Raizor of Milligan, Samantha Ring of St. Andrews, Sarah Robinson of Milligan, Hunter Simpson of Tennessee Wesleyan, and Destinee Webster of Point.
Allison and Izuagie both landed on the second team and are joined by Logan Calvert of Union, Brooke Hammonds of Union, Bethany Headrick of Reinhardt, Denijah Johnson of Columbia, Andi Lamb of Milligan, Jacobi Lynn of Tennessee Wesleyan, Equayla Smith of Allen, and Ashton Sutton of Reinhardt.
Making the All-Defensive Team along with Allison are Hubbard, Perkins, Raizor, Courtney Kendrick of Bluefield, and Lia Thomas of Brenau.
Izuagie is joined on the All-Freshmen Team by Re'Tavia Floyd of Truett McConnell, Tesa Johnson of Bryan, Destiny Kassner of Bryan, LeAsia Linton of Union, Catherine Shope of Reinhardt, and Hannah Wyrick of Milligan,
Making the Champions of Character Team are Lamb, Maggee Bolt of Brenau, Brittany Burnett of Reinhardt, Kayla Clifton of St. Andrews, Darah DeWalt of Montreat, Anika Galindo of Allen, Katrina Johnson of Union, Amber Levi of Bryan, Natalie Nixon of Truett McConnell, Jordan Sprueill of Columbia International, Hannah Trout of Tennessee Wesleyan, Haley Turman of Bluefield.
Seventh-eight student-athletes earned a spot on the All-Academic Team.
