2013 All-AAC Volleyball Team Announced
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Appalachian Athletic Conference announced the 2013 Volleyball All-Conference Team on Wednesday at the awards banquet at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center, and Denise de Vine of Reinhardt is the AAC Player of the Year.
With a 19-1 conference record, Bryan received its award for winning the 2013 AAC regular-season championship. Columbia was named the Champions of Character Team, and David Shumaker of Bryan is the AAC Coach of the Year.
De Vine led the conference in both kills per set and services per set. In fact, de Vine leads the nation in kills per set. She hammered home 403 kills, averaging 4.74 per set, and posted a .281 hitting percentage. De Vine served up 57 total aces. She also recorded 20-plus kills in a match nine times. She was also solid defensively with 310 digs.
Ana Calaza of Union is the AAC Libero of the Year. The sophomore led the league in digs and digs per set with 687 digs and 5.73 digs per set, ranking eighth in the NAIA in digs per set. She had 36 service aces as well.
Earning AAC Setter of the Year honors is Taylor Fink of Bryan. She leads the league in assists per set at 10.6, ranking her 11th nationally, and has 1,124 assists on the year. Fink has also has 37 aces, 49 total blocks and 279 digs.
Kara Stamper of Bryan is the AAC Freshman of the Year. An outside hitter, Stamper posted 344 kills and .260 hitting percentage to go with 53 total blocks.
Joining De Vine on the All-AAC First Team are: Fink; Calaza; Chelsea Breaden of Bryan; Carolyn Evans of Bryan; Ashley Farris of Bryan; Jacqui Anderson of Columbia; Caitlin Brickley of Columbia; Kylie Whaley of Milligan; Lauren Owen of Montreat; Hannah Scholz of Montreat; Abby Schuster of Tennessee Wesleyan; Caity Merritt of Union; and Paige Moore of Union.
Making the All-AAC Second Team are: Stamper; Chloe Perkins of Columbia; Richelle Prijic of Columbia; Jessica Davenport of Milligan; Kendelyn Wheaton of St. Andrews; and Ashleigh Manke of Virginia Intermont.
The All-Freshmen Team consists of: Stamper; Prijic; Schuster; Kara Anderson of Columbia; Samantha Bruinius of Milligan; and Julia Edmonds of Union.
A total of 56 student-athletes made the All-Academic Team. Bryan and Point led the way with each placing nine players on the squad.
