ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The 2021 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Volleyball Tournament is now whittled down to four teams after a high-energy quarterfinal round on Thursday.
The 10-team, single-elimination tournament gets underway on Wednesday, Nov. 10, and runs through Friday, Nov. 12, at the MeadowView Marriott Convention Center & Conference Resort in Kingsport, Tenn. Fans are allowed to attend the tournament, and tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
The top three seeds all advanced with No. 5 Brenau pulling off the lone upset in a thrilling five-setter.
The day began with top-seeded Bryan sweeping its way past No. 9 Milligan. Gigi Ford paced the Lions with 15 kills in the 25-28, 25-14, 25-16.
No. 2 Columbia International put on an impressive display in dispatching No. 7 Point in three. The Rams won 25-10, 25-22, 25-8 with Kira Rymer and Alana Sanjurjo logging 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Ingrid Ferrari added five kills and five blocks.
Brenau had to hang to collect the 3-2 win over No. 4 Bluefield. The Golden Tigers won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-20, but the Rams evened the match by taking the next two frames 25-23 and 25-22. However, Brenau completed the upset with a 15-11 set five win. Mary Ellen Enright recorded 25 kills and 16 digs in the win.
No. 6 Union tried to rally for a comeback win, but third-seeded Reinhardt made sure that did not happen by winning in four. The Eagles took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-22 before the Bulldogs bounced back for a 25-22 set three win. Reinhardt regrouped and won the fourth stanza 25-20 to punch its ticket to the semifinal round. Jacoby Sims delivered 17 kills for the Eagles with Abby Infante adding 11.
